The black, red, and yellow flag is the flag of Germany. It was adopted in 1919, following the end of World War I and the establishment of the Weimar Republic. The colors represent the democratic ideals of the republic: black for the dark years of authoritarian rule, red for the struggle for freedom and democracy, and gold for the bright future of the new Republic. The flag was banned by the Nazis during their rule, but was reinstated after World War II as the flag of West Germany and is still in use as the national flag of Germany today.
